Welcome

About the Foundation and its Objectives: The Fred J. Wellington Memorial Foundation, a 501(c)(3) foundation, has been established to accomplish Fred Wellington's dream to improve and expand care and services for children with language-based learning disabilities. The accomplishment of his dream to change the future will long honor his memory for generations.

GOALS:

  1. Expand the availability of the very effective individualized interdisciplinary intervention model developed by Ann Alexander, M.D. The model treats the challenges faced by individuals with language-based learning disabilities (L/LD), such as dyslexia. This intervention model is unique to the field of treatment for dyslexia, yielding more robust and long-lasting results than the more traditional treatments currently in use. The intervention employs neurologically-based, scientifically proven multidisciplinary therapies that aim to treat the root problems causing the language/learning difficulties and any co-occurring weaknesses that also impact learning, such as ADHD, executive function, behavior difficulties, sensorimotor difficulties. Results can be seen in weeks, not years, and are long-lasting and life-changing. By utilizing the charitable donations to financially assist individuals who cannot absorb the associated costs, those who may have gone without treatment will have the opportunity to receive intervention and change the future.
  2. Utilize donations and revenues generated to expand availability of the treatment model by developing training modules for schools and treatment centers, as well as implementing workshop, website, and conference presentations for instructors and healthcare providers designed to disseminate current research knowledge and its implication for bettering services for the 15 to 20 percent of the population struggling with these difficulties.
  3. Promote research efforts designed to establish the optimal methods for helping preschool children at risk for dyslexia (reading disorders) due to oral language challenges (ESL, slow to talk, poor grammar, poor naming) by providing seed money for pilot projects.
OBJECTIVES:
  1. Identify professional people, groups, and businesses to support the FJ Wellington Foundation's   ongoing financial endeavors through charitable donations. Effective systems will be established to measure the results of the endeavors such as positive change in the children's ability to learn and the evaluation of education efforts. In this way, the impact of the financial donation will be measured against the results. These systems will be the Foundation's ultimate measuring tool for results.
  2. Market the syntactic (grammar) language system therapy (VKSS) designed by Ann Alexander, M.D. VKSS successfully addresses difficulties or challenges with both the comprehension and expression of spoken and written language. Royalties generated will be donated to the Foundation.
  3. Promote research efforts designed to establish the optimal methods for helping at-risk preschool children (language difficulties, ESL) by applying for grants.
Specific Deficiencies to be Targeted: Targeted deficiencies are in line with the Foundation's objectives and are the professional expertise areas of Dr. Ann Alexander's model of intervention. The Foundation has established the financial aid age criteria to be two (2) years of age through adulthood. The specific areas are listed below.

  1. Dyslexia is the core condition and is the priority-specific condition. This condition includes language-based learning disabilities.
  2. Co-existing conditions include ADHD, executive functioning disorders, anxiety, depression and sensorimotor deficits.
  3. The Foundation has established discretionary conditions; these are associated prevention programs surrounding children at risk, including (but not limited to) the Hanen It Takes Two to Talk® Program.
